All Hallows' Eve: When Heaven and Earth Meet in the Garden of Lights
On the evening before All Saints' Day, when the lights shine in the garden of the Vincentians, a special space opens up in Hildesheim for encounters, questions, and reflection. During All Hallows' Eve, saints from different centuries come to life and engage in personal dialogue with visitors.
A Faith Experience Between Light and Darkness
In the illuminated garden, tranquility, candlelight, and a spiritual atmosphere combine to create an extraordinary religious experience. The evening reflects the significance of All Hallows' Eve as the eve of All Saints' Day and invites contemplation of memory, connectedness, and the closeness between past and present.
Holy Personalities in Personal Conversation
Members of the community embody figures such as Francis, Teresa of Ávila, Vincent de Paul, Hildegard of Bingen, Elizabeth of Hungary, Mary Magdalene, Louise de Marillac, and Edith Stein. They share stories from the lives of these personalities, give them a voice, and respond to the questions of the guests.
What would Francis say about climate change? What can Mary Magdalene tell us about love? And what significance does charity hold today? The conversations connect religious tradition, theology, and current life questions in an immediate and human way.
The Ladder to Heaven as a Place of Dialogue
A special meeting point is the Ladder to Heaven. There, two represented saints frequently meet and share about their lives, experiences, and beliefs. Meanwhile, visitors walk through the garden, discover various personalities, and engage in conversation themselves.
Vincentian Spirituality and Community
The Vincentians follow the saints Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac, who have been serving people in need for over 400 years. Encounter, prayer, worship, and lived charity shape the spirituality of the community. This attitude is felt during the evening of lights and creates an open faith experience for people of different generations and backgrounds.
