Oberliga women: PSV ends season with a point

PSV women fight for a 0:0 at the end of the season – Auracher secures the point

PSV GW Hildesheim finished the Oberliga season with a 0:0 against TSV Limmer. In sporting terms, the draw still had an effect despite already securing their place in the league: Hildesheim overtook HSC Hannover in the final table and finished the season in twelfth place.

Strong first half: PSV disrupts Limmer's build-up and sets their own accents

At Marienburger Höhe, the hosts got off to the better start. PSV closed down Limmer early in the center, pressed aggressively, and thus won several balls, visibly disrupting the flow of play of the guests, who arrived as sixth in the table. Limmer responded by looking for the direct route more often – with long balls down the flanks and into the gaps, to bypass the pressing.

Hildesheim defended these phases attentively in the first half. The defense around Gebke Hagedorn cleared consistently, while PSV repeatedly set accents going forward down the wings. Jonna Bögershausen delivered several dangerous crosses into the penalty area, Luise Baumgarten had a good chance to finish, but didn't strike the ball cleanly enough.

The transition play was also notable: after winning the ball, PSV switched quickly and opened up spaces – especially down the left side, where Sophie Wendland and Vanessa Dorn repeatedly found room. However, no goals were scored before the break: 0:0.

After the break, Limmer turns up – Hildesheim has to suffer

After the break, the game increasingly tilted in favor of the guests. Limmer increased the intensity, went into tackles more aggressively, and pushed PSV deeper into their own half. Hildesheim held their ground, winning important duels in the center – also in the air, where Franziska Aue won several headers against the physically strong Limmer players and thus defused dangerous second balls. Nevertheless, the share of play shifted noticeably.

The fact that PSV could not play to their usual strength in set pieces fit the picture of the second half: Limmer defended corners and free kicks with concentration, Hildesheim found themselves less often in good finishing positions.

In the closing stages, things got dicey several times. Limmer had several high-quality chances and were closer to scoring the winning goal. That it remained 0:0 was mainly due to goalkeeper Jolien Auracher, who secured the point with several saves and prevented a late goal. All in all, the draw felt more like a point gained after the course of the game – even though PSV had chances to take the lead themselves in the strong first half.

A conciliatory conclusion – and a look ahead on the bench

PSV had already secured their place in the league before the last matchday: at the latest after the 2:0 away win at FC Pfeil Broistedt, it was clear that Hildesheim could no longer slip into a relegation spot. The 0:0 against Limmer now set a combative and convincing final point in front of their own fans – and matched the attitude of the first leg, which PSV had won 2:1 in Hannover.

There are also signs of continuity on the sidelines: head coach Christopher Padrok publicly announced in February that he would be on the sidelines for PSV next season. This gives Hildesheim planning security for the next season.
