When Music Theatre Becomes an Outcry Against Violence
In the Holy Spirit Church in Sarstedt, silence transforms into an intense sound space on October 2, 2026: Outcry of Silence tells the story of Ganka Yordanova, who experienced violence and exploitation as a forced prostitute for years and was murdered in 2023 in Koblenz. The musical theatre piece combines memory, acting, and musical urgency into a stage experience that does not stop at mere shock.
A Staging Between Memory and Indictment
Hyelee Clara Chang has created a musical portrait from the shock of Ganka's fate. The dramaturgy leads into the oppressive reality of a woman's life, whose voice has nearly been drowned out in societal noise. Powerful, expressive music makes visible what eludes a sober message: fear, dependency, indignity, and the desperate desire for freedom.
Originally conceived for a singer and a pianist, the revival in 2026 will receive an expanded musical and scenic dimension. Juan Ramirez takes on the role of the pimp as a tenor, the Young Choir Sarstedt expands the sonic body, and sopranos Sao Kim and Lana Hartmann embody Ganka in alternating performances. Hyelee Clara Chang is responsible for the piano part and musical direction.
Music Theatre as a Shared Reflection Space
The staging does not rely on distanced illustration but on immediate stage art. Voice, piano sound, and choral singing coalesce into acoustics in which every pause gains significance. The church's stage design does not provide a neutral background: the sacred architecture adds an additional tension between safe space, indictment, and public remembrance.
After the performance, the Aftermath opens the theatre space for exchange and discussion. The audience thus experiences not only an opera but a shared thinking space about violence against women, societal responsibility, and the question of what impact art can have.
An Opera with Impact Beyond the Stage
The premiere of Outcry of Silence in Koblenz received great acclaim. The world premiere raised awareness of the issue and also contributed to the expansion of funding and support measures for a women's shelter and counseling centers against violence. This combination of aesthetic experience and concrete societal impulse is one of the special dramaturgical qualities of the project.
Conclusion: An Intense Stage Experience in Sarstedt
Outcry of Silence promises a focused, emotional, and socially relevant performance. In the Holy Spirit Church, modern opera, choir, acting, and musical direction converge for an evening that resonates. Those who want to experience music theatre as a vibrant engagement with the present will find a compelling reason to immerse themselves in this stage experience.
