Starting from June 30, 2026, the Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim offers an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at monument preservation: the public restoration of the Gothic Trinity Altar. Every Tuesday from 4 to 5 PM, the audience accompanies restorer Roksana Jachim in her precise work and experiences an art experience where material, time, and art historical responsibility become directly tangible.

An Altar with a Tumultuous History

The Trinity Altar returns to the RPM after about 80 years. Having been stored during World War II, later set up as a permanent loan in St. Bernward Church, and already restored in 2019 for the special exhibition TURNING POINT 1400, it tells of loss, preservation, and museum care. This restoration makes visible how closely intertwined art history, conservation, and cultural memory are.

Artwork Observation in the Context of Preservation
