VOICES BEYOND BORDERS: Ukrainian Voices Meet Hildesheim Choral Sound
On Friday, November 6, 2026, St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim will transform into an impressive sound space for encounters, cultural exchange, and musical diversity. At the family concert VOICES BEYOND BORDERS, Ukrainian ensembles will meet the children’s and youth choirs Vox Nicolai from Sarstedt as well as the ensemble NeboKray.
Choral Singing with International Appeal
The focus will be on the vocal studio of the Ukrainian National Choir Hryhorij Werjowka, one of the significant Ukrainian choral ensembles. The program will be complemented by the Bandura chapel of the National Music Academy of Ukraine. The traditional Bandura resembles a zither in its construction and connects characteristic string sounds with Ukrainian vocal music.
When Voices Overcome Borders
The live atmosphere in the UNESCO World Heritage Church of St. Michaelis offers the choirs and instrumentalists a particularly resonant framework. Polyphonic singing, intricate Bandura orchestration, and the synchronization of voices and strings create a concert image between sacred acoustics, folkloric sound colors, and modern cultural encounters.
Sharing the Stage Together
Alongside the Ukrainian ensembles, the children’s and youth choirs Vox Nicolai Sarstedt and the ensemble NeboKray, founded by Ukrainian refugees, will also perform. NeboKray has already represented the city of Sarstedt at the competition Hört! Hört!. Accompanying on the piano is Ukrainian pianist Elena Kolesnitschenko, who has lived in Hanover for more than 20 years.
Music as a Sign of Connectedness
The performance was organized by Yuliia Zherlitsyna, founder of the county-wide Ukrainian cultural association Wulyk, and Cecilia Abu Ajamieh, head of the Sarstedt children’s and youth choirs Vox Nicolai. The guest performance is supported by Hildesheim's church music director Angelika Rau-Čulo and the Michaelis Choir.
Conclusion: A Concert for the Whole Family
VOICES BEYOND BORDERS promises a touching concert experience with Ukrainian choral music, traditional Bandura, young voices, and a special audience atmosphere. Admission is free; donations are welcome. Anyone wanting to experience music as a connecting force live should not miss this evening at St. Michaelis.
